Folks, I love living in East Boston so far. My walk to the train in the morning is short, and all I pass on the way is families and kids heading to school/work. I have not run into any hoodlums or weirdos unlike most other places in the city I've lived (most notably Charlestown and Fenway). I'm not saying there aren't any, but they aren't in my neighborhood often enough for me to see them so far.
The other residents in my building are quiet and polite, the place is kept very clean, there's actually usually easy to find on-street parking (helpful when we've been renting Zipcars to help us move crap from the old apartment), and despite living a stone's throw from the airport I haven't heard a plane yet. In the Fenway and Beacon Hill there were always ambulances and police cars and fire engines screaming past. We're in a quiet residential neighborhood now and have heard no such thing.
Eastie, you're winning me over.
