Alex the parrot

I think I posted about Alex once before, maybe last year when he died. Anyway, I remember learning about him in high school biology. I thought it was the coolest thing that his trainer figured out parrots were so much smarter than people thought.

In any case, she's written a book called Alex and Me and there's an interesting excerpt from it on NPR's site.

Guy in Oklahoma Builds Lightning Machine

Really. This guy built a Tesla Coil. Not sure exactly why, but being someone who's always had weird issues with thunderstorms/lightning/tornadoes, this is strangely fascinating.

I'm not sure if they show it on this video but on one I saw they show the guy's checklist of what he double checks before turning it on and one of the items is "dogs inside". I'm glad he's not electrocuting his dogs with his lightning machine.

Propose the ring?

I don't even really know what to say about this except, have you seen the commercial? Maybe there's more than one but I've only seen one. Thank goodness for DVRs because Rob and I were like, WHAT? and had to rewind it and watch it 2 more times.

This is wicked funny! Oh Durex, you jokesters.

5 Things

Thank goodness Hashbrown gave me a topic to steal because my mind is not coming up with my usual wit and charm today but I do want to post something.

So, here are 5 things you may not know about me:

  1. I can drive a three-on-the-tree pickup truck.
  2. I hate wearing shoes and socks. If my feet wouldn't get frostbite and fall off I would wear sandals and/or go barefoot all year long.
  3. I have had grey hair since I was 16.
  4. I am the only person from my high school class to go to college more than 150 miles away.
  5. I have 3 holes in each of my ears. I know. Gross. I only use 1 in each now.

Note: I had to edit #4 to be 150 miles because I underestimated how far Columbus (and Ohio State) was from my lame-ass town.

Post Secret

I always forget to add a link to Post Secret on my sidebar.

Here's a quote from it today:

"Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. If we could just remember this, I think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world."

What do you think? Do you ever read this site? Some of the secrets are funny or silly, a lot of them are sad.

Damn someone

Want to damn someone? I thought I would have a million ideas but when I got there my mind blanked on who I'd actually like to damn.

My visual DNA

So I copied Melissa again.

This is kind of a fun weird game to play. My only complaint is apparently it removes apostrophes in the little descriptions it lets you add. I know how to spell "it's".

Spider lady!

Oh no, Greta Binford, your job scares me a lot.

I am not capable of being very rational about spiders, I'm sorry. Although my fear of them is not quite at the level of Clementine or even Rob, I would certainly prefer that there was someone around to kill them for me, and I don't want them in my abode.

Give me the fish!

Dude, in Singapore they have fish nibble dead skin off your feet! I'll take it, where do I sign up? My feet are SUPER GROSS which is a good reason why I need to cover them up with pretty pretty shoes like these, which I just got from Christmas money from my parents.

Thanks guys!

Buy Me Stuff

Really?

Thanks, very nice of you.

First, check my

Amazon.com wishlist

and there's no need to worry that I already have it or won't use it.

Tip: Check around for better pricing. Amazon's pricing is usually good, but not always the best available.

A quick Froogle search can't hurt.
