Grow a pair, Connecticut school administrators.

Apparently, now teachers can't even mention Darwin without causing a ruckus.

Seriously. Because school administrators are so worried about potential parent reactions they wouldn't let a science teacher in Weston, Connecticut teach his proposed lesson involving Darwin, so he resigned. Good job, administrators.

This is getting completely ridiculous. First of all, people may disagree with me but there is absolutely no doubt that evolution is fact. To not teach it as part of a science education is completely unacceptable. If I had a child in a school and the school refused to teach evolution or even worse, insisted on teaching "intelligent design" or "creationism", I would unfortunately have to do something drastic immediately, like withdraw my child from the school and find an alternative education plan.

But all that aside, please read the article. Because this was pretty mild stuff. It was for third graders and the lesson plan was about them retracing Darwin's journey on the HMS Beagle (something that is, actually, real fact folks) and learning about what he found along the way. Which is also fact, whatever conclusions you may think you can draw from it.

In other words, Darwin really went on this trip and really observed the things he observed. If you disagree with what he concluded afterwards, which is your right I suppose (even if it makes you half crazy if you ask me), that's fine. In other words, it's your right to not "believe" in facts if you choose. But to not allow a teacher to teach anything about the trip because you're so scared that crazy parents might whine about it is really getting out of control now.

I'm sorry the teacher had to resign but I'm really glad he made the decision because I think it's the right one. For Pete's sake, when they won't let you teach science you're not much of a science teacher.

This whole thing just makes me so angry.
