MacBook Air

Of course it's even more out of control than I expected. The thickest part is only 0.76". The thinnest is 0.16"! That's crazy dude!

Total nerdy technology post alert

Today is MacWorld and everyone is in a kerfuffle about a supposed new ultra thin laptop.

And checkout the teaser currently on Apple's site:

something in the air

and here's what it says, because you probably can't read the horribly compressed image:

there's something in the air

Nerderific!

When idiots are in charge

Apparently it's OK to be an idiot about technology, but run a technology magazine.

That's a head-scratcher.

Google set on world domination?

Rob has very thoughtfully analyzed an article in Wired this month - an interview with the CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt.

The interview takes a creepy turn toward the end. Read what Rob has to say about it.

Making pretty websites

If you're actually someone who designs your own websites and not a cheater piggy-backer like me, getting all that for free from my poor abused boyfriend, then use something decent like one of the programs Rob talks about here, instead of typing every bit of code from scratch like a crazy person.

Even I know better than to do that.

Best Buy ruins something else

Besides just your shopping experience, now they are ruining my internet service provider.

Speakeasy is the only ISP we've had that doesn't totally suck ass. They actually give you reliable service, they allow you to run a server, they have customer service people who actually know what they're talking about, they offer a decent range of products, etc.

Apparently Best Buy's big plan is to expand their small business clientele by adding Speakeasy's services. Too bad they didn't think about all the people who have Speakeasy now who are going to drop it because they don't want broadband service from fucking Best Buy. So good job Best Buy, you'll get to keep all the idiot businesses who already use you for technology services for God knows what reason, and maybe you'll sign up a couple more dummies, but I predict you'll lose most customers with brains in their heads.

I have no idea who we're supposed to get broadband service from now. Our other options suck. We need a business provider basically.

Thanks for nothing, Best Buy

Check out what Rob has to say about the matter too.

It was our dream come true when we finally could get Speakeasy. And it got even better when we could get their Onelink service which meant we didn't need to pay Verizon for a phone line in addition to the charge from Speakeasy for the DSL. Now they have to go and break our hearts.

SIGH.

I Choose my iPod

There's a story on NPR right now about whether the "art of conversation" is dead and the tagline is: Contemporary Conversation or Your iPod? What do you choose? Well, I choose my iPod. Yes, conversation is dead. But that's OK with me. I can't think of anything more excruciating than the idea of trying to have some deep conversation about "interesting things" with people. I mean of course I talk to my friends, my family, my boyfriend, about things both interesting and not. However, I am inundated with information all day long - TV, radio, crowds in the city. I have no desire to have meaningful conversations with random passers-by or acquaintances. Yes, I would absolutely rather turn up my iPod than listen to the people around me have inane conversations about how the Red Sox players are overpaid, what's the best bar to go to, their fun night of stupid drunkenness, or, even better, listen to the crazy religious humming/chanting guy doing his crazy religious hum/chant on the bus, staring people down daring them to tell him to shut up.

Jobs = evil capitalist and Gates = generous philanthropist?

Take that, Steve Jobs.

I have a suggestion.

If MySQL does want a more extreme image, they may want to get rid of the dolphin in their logo. Just an idea.
